Start your day off right

There is something to be said for making your bed every day.  I have to confess, I do make my bed every morning.  Well, almost every morning.  There is the occasional day when I skip out due to running late and don’t.  There are a few reasons behind this concept and I want to share them with you.

  1. It feels so good time climb into a made bed at the end of the day. The pillows are fluffed, there is no laundry or mess piled up on top and the bed is just ready and waiting for you to climb in and be very sleepy.  It is a stress-free zone ready for you at the end of the day.  This is the last place you need to be greeted by any pending “last minute to do” items such as fold laundry.  (I confess, I am guilty of this and regularly work on making sure my bed is clear of clutter).
  2. It’s a great opportunity to have a fresh start to your day. When you get up in the morning and make your bed you are mentally telling yourself it is time to start your day and get your engines going, so to say, to head in a positive direction.  Almost like checking the first item off your “to do” list.
  3. If you have pets such as dogs or cats that can gain access to your bed and pillows (assuming you have pillows with shams that cover your sleeping pillows) in your absence, this allows your bed to be free and clear from any pet dander. This will also help you sleep better.  A clean bed always is a better night’s sleep.  In this case, I would encourage you to add an extra blanket across your comforter or quilt for your animals to lay on, thus keeping your sleeping area extra clean and fresh.

This may sound silly, but give it a try and you may find your days have a little more pep in their step and your nights may be a bit more restful.  One added note, if you find yourself having a super bad day, you can always give yourself a very literal restart.  Go back to bed, take what I like to call a disco-nap.  A little 20-minute snooze under to covers and even in your pajamas if time permits.  Then get up and start your day again by getting dressed and making your bed.  Leave the earlier part of the day in the past and move forward.  We all have a rough patch here and there and it’s ok.  It’s how we handle it and what we do with it that matters.  If you can do a literal restart, try taking a quick five minute walk outside and a few deep breaths this will help you with a restart as well.  Fresh air is always a great remedy for ugly negativity.  We only go around once, make every minute count.  As always, have a happy day.
